APRA MUSIC AWARDS 2012 - THE WINNERS, THE PARRRRTY

I think we've finally sobered up. Jelly Sounds was front and centre at the 2012 APRA Music Awards, the awards night that matters most for Australian artists.

Gotye of course was the man of the moment following the international success of his hit "somebody that I used to know", but for mine the highlight of the evening was Kate Miller-Heidke's cover of "you should consider having sex with a bearded man" by fellow Aussie folk-rockers The Beards. Bravo KMH.

Big congrats to good friends of Jelly Sounds - Busby Marou - who took the gong for Blues & Roots Work of the Year - top effort lads!

The after party kick-on at Cargo wasn't half bad either.

RECORD STORE DAY 2012 LOOMS! ::21 APRIL

Music stores are funny ol' haunts. Personally, I can't seem to pass by without being drawn in by some kind of invisible tractor-beam. Once I'm in there, hours seem to disappear like minutes. Between the albums, instruments and the characters, some kind of indefinable relaxation/entertainment emerges. Sometimes I reckon they should charge cover :)

With that in mind Chris Brown conceived "Record Store Day" in 2007 - the idea being for artists & stores to come together and celebrate the art of music. In 2012 it's happening on 21-April (next weekend!) and there's plenty of participating stores across Oz. So next Saturday, get involved. Drop in, buy some vinyl, take it home and give it a spin. Enjoy!
